All educational institutions including universities are opening on Sunday

Normal activities in educational institutions are going to start from next Sunday after the fall of the government and violence in the strong mass movement.


An office order of the Department of Secondary and Higher Education informed on Thursday that the Chief Adviser of the Interim Government, Muhammad Yunus, has ordered to start the normal education program from August 18.


University Grants Commission, Vice-Chancellors of public and private universities, Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education, Directorate of Madrasah Education, Directorate of Technical Education have been asked to take necessary measures in this regard.


Earlier on Tuesday, the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education had given instructions to start the class activities in primary schools in full swing from Wednesday.


Students' agitation demanding reform of quota in government jobs turned violent on July 15. Six people including students and pedestrians lost their lives in clashes in Dhaka, Chittagong and Rangpur on July 16.


In an alarming situation, schools, colleges, polytechnics and universities across the country were declared closed indefinitely that night.


The next morning, primary schools in the city corporation areas of 8 divisional towns were closed. When the situation worsened, the government later closed primary schools across the country.


It was decided to start class activities in all primary schools of the country except the municipal areas of 12 city corporations and Narsingdi district from last August 4, but it was postponed when the situation worsened.


The day after the fall of the government on August 5, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) issued a press release directing the opening of educational institutions from August 7. After that, some primary schools were opened but classes were closed in most of the schools due to lack of instructions from the ministry.
